Description
Pinus nigra also known as Black, or Austrian Pine is a rich, robust evergreen tree, with deep green glossy needles and a picturesque, rounded, informal growth habit.
Pinus nigra is excellent in exposed and coastal areas, belonging to a group of trees that do not mind being blasted by salt laden winds. It therefore makes the perfect selection for wind break planting and protection from the sea; it is amazing how wonderfully the foliage of an Austrian Pine can dissipate the power from the wind on a blustery day.
A good screening tree, it can reach over 20m in height at maturity, so consideration should be given to oits planting location.
It is a very tolerant tree and can resist heat, drought, salt, snow and ice.
