Felling and mulching at Centre Parcs

Project: Felling and mulching

Client: Centre Parcs        Location: Woburn Forest

Outline

After an 8 year planning process, Center Parcs opened it Woburn Forest site to customers in 2014, and Practicality Brown took part in the preparation for the final stages.

Situation

Previously a commercial forest, some trees were removed at the site to improve light levels on the forest floor and increase the biodiversity, allowing new species of plants to thrive.

Programme

PBL ran an accelerated felling and mulching programme. Restricted to working over a Friday and Monday during changeover period, we felled over 250 pine and juvenile oak using an excavator-mounted Tree Shear, aided by a chainsaw team who dealt with oversize wood. All brash and low grade timber was mulched on site, as access to remove timber was not practical. We used the AHWI RT400 tracked Forestry Mulcher for this process.
