In Spring 2010 Practicality Brown Ltd carried out the Vegetation
Clearance programme on the above project for main contractor, Bam
Nuttall on behalf of Luton Borough Council.
The contract required Practicality Brown to provide Ecology
advice and a watching brief during a condensed programme of
Mechanised Vegetation Clearance over an 8 week period.
Despite the inevitable constraints when dealing with a shelved
project, we worked closely with the main contractor to achieve our
client's goal within the given time frame.
The site is a 12km section of disused railway comprising of both
trees and scrub and it runs adjacent to live roads and railway from
the centre of Dunstable to the opposite side of Luton. Traffic
and Pedestrian Management was necessary in order to clear
vegetation from the 9 rail over bridges along the route, all of
which intersect with busy live roads.
Ecology constraints that evolved as we proceeded with the works
included Badgers, Bats, Slow Worms, Nesting Birds and important
Flora .
The scheme will provide a state of the art guided bus connection
between Luton and Dunstable.
