1. Acer campestre (Field Maple)
Because of it's ability to regenerate after pruning, this
popular deciduous tree is ideal for forming
'Espalier' and 'Pleached' trees. It has a very
compact and closed crown with a strictly vertical trunk with smooth
dark-grey bark. The leaves are a fresh green colour in spring and
turn golden yellow in the autumn. Carpinus can be planted in sun to
shade on all soil types.
2.Carpinus betulus / Hornbeam (central Europe)
Because of it's ability to regenerate after pruning, this
popular deciduous tree is ideal for forming 'Espalier' and

3. Fagus sylvatica/Beech (Europe, Asia minor, east
Asia&North America)
A very popular deciduous tree for 'Espalier' and 'Pleached'
forms due to its ability to retain its leaves throughout the winter
months. Bark is smooth silvery grey and the leaves are fresh green
turning a splendid yellow-orange in the autumn. Beech prefers
nutritious, well drained soils, it is sensitive to salt and soil
pollution of all kinds. Can be planted in sun to shade.
4. Malus 'Red Sentinel'/Flowering Crab (Europe,
Asia&America)
A small deciduous tree with outward growing branches. The green
leaves emerge bronze coloured and have red-tinted stems. Flowers
are 4cm in size and grow in bundles of 4 to 8 together and are
single. In bud the flowers are pink but they turn white when open.
'Red Sentinel' produces bright red fruits that remain on the tree
for a long time. Will grow in sandy, clay or calcareous soils in
sun to light shade.
5. Tilia platyphyllos/Broad-leaved Lime (central
Europe)
This large, fast growing deciduous tree prefers evenly moist,
nutrient rich, deep soils. Leaves are heart-shaped, matt green at
first turning golden-yellow in the autumn. Tilia's respond well to
regular pruning.
6. Tilia x europaea 'Pallida' (Common Lime)
This medium to fast growing deciduous tree has a straight,
vertical stem. It can be grown in all types of soil. Leaves are
slanted heart-shaped shiny dark green with a light green underside.
This variety comes into leaf early and drops it's leaves early.
Autumn colour is yellow.
